Defense rules as Holgate tops Wauseon

HOLGATE - In a hard-nosed defensive battle between two solid teams, Holgate bested Wauseon 42-33 last night.

Luke Brubaker led the way for the 17-3 Tigers with 14 points. Ted Sonnenberg chipped in with five points and nine rebounds.

Troy Hoste scored 10 points for the 15-5 Indians. Zach Fether contributed eight points and seven rebounds.

Holgate connected on 12 of 31 shots from the field for 39 percent, while Wauseon could only make 13 of 41 for 32 percent.

HICKSVILLE - Hicksville hit 31 of 39 foul shots to Montpelier's 8 of 11.

The Aces (17-3) put five in double figures - Brett Diehl had 18, Nate Williams, Nate Stoltzfus and Scott Gerbers 14 each and Chad Schooley 13.

Montpelier (7-13) got 17 from Chase Thomas and 13 from B.J. Ogden.

DELTA - Chas Abbott led Delta (6-14) with 24 points, including all four of the Panthers' treys.

Delta made 13 of 22 foul shots, but 11 of 15 in the fourth quarter to hold off the Archers.

SWANTON - Chris Wilson and Mark Quilan each scored 10 points for Ottawa Hills (13-7).

Joe Rhodes had 14 for Swanton (2-18).

Swanton led 14-10 after one quarter, but the Green Bears outscored the Bulldogs 38-12 thereafter.
