Boys basketball roundup: Toledo Christian, Ottawa Hills win

Toledo Christian and Ottawa Hills picked up sectional final victories last night at Springfield

Ottawa Hills defeated Cardinal Stritch 56-54 and Toledo Christian topped Northwood 65-62.

Brian Buckey led Ottawa Hills with 22 points, including four of the Green Bears' five treys. Mike Quinlan added 12.

Alex Thanasiu led Stritch with 21, including five treys.

David Schaff scored 21 for Toledo Christian, including nine from the foul line where TC outscored Northwood 18-3.

Addrew Boggs added 15, Tim Conklin 14 and Matt Boggs 11.

Rick Crispen paced Northwood with 18, Jason Jacob had 14, Matt Donegan 12 and Mike Shaneck 10.

HOLGATE 49, PETTISVILLE 45

WAUSEON - Lee Brubaker scored 17, Ted Sonnenberg added 16 and Holgate escaped in three overtimes.

Tyson Snider led Pettisville with nine.

AYERSVILLE 91, MAUMEE VALLEY 57

WAUSEON - Jason Demland scored 22, Anthony Jackson 17, Michael Engel 14 and Raphael Manriquez 12 for Ayersville (14-7).

Josh Radtkin paced Maumee Valley (11-11) with 18 and Delence Chears added 17.

DANBURY 72, SANDUSKY SMCC 61

PORT CLINTON - Danbury outscored St. Mary Central Catholic 41-18 in the second half.

Jake Fanning paced Danbury (18-3) with 25 points and Jason Indorf added 19. They combined for seven of the team's nine treys.

Steven Ferber led SMCC (10-12) with 17. Aaron Kowaleski and Devin Phillips each added 12.

CALVERT 47, OLD FORT 46

BASCOM - Phillip Borer scored 18 points but Tiffin Calvert, No. 1 in the state, had to go double overtime at Hopewell-Loudon to beat Old Fort.

Tommy Smathers added 14 for unbeaten Calvert.

Drew Gaietto scored 20 for Old Fort (11-11)

FREMONT ST. JOE 71, NEW RIEGEL 48

BASCOM - Fremont St. Joe (15-6) placed four in double figures - Brett Wilhelm 17, Pat Licursi and A.J. Messina 14 apiece and David Babione 11.

New Riegel (11-11) got 12 from Brandon Reinhart.

HICKSVILLE 63, EDON 39

BRYAN - Chad Schooley scored 22 points for Hicksville (18-3). Aaron Kemerer added 14 and Brett Diehl 13.

Edon (13-9) got 16 points from Tyler Hake.

STRYKER 57, EDGERTON 52

BRYAN - Mike Yates scored 19 and Nick Lloyd 16 for Stryker (12-9).

Eric Green led Edgerton (6-16) with 15 and Chris Everetts had 10.

ELMWOOD 75, CAREY 52

FOSTORIA - Travis Rothenbuhler scored 29 points, Tony Overton 16 and Kyle Rhoad 11 as Elmwood romped.

Gary Risner paced Carey with 16.

ST. WENDELIN 58, HOPEWELL-LOUDON 43

FOSTORIA - Tommy Wade led St. Wendelin with 16 points. Zach Boehnlein and Ryan Sacksteder added 10 each.

OTTAWA - Tristan Tagliapieta scored 24 points and Blake Tucker added 16 for Van Buren. Ryan Winkle led Continental with 18, Kurtis Brown had 16 and Casey Spitnale 14.

OTTAWA - Joel McDaniel scored 16 and Kevin Niese 15 for Leipsic. Kyle Vennekott had 17 and Josh Klear 12 for Miller City.
