Football players at Bowsher were among hundreds of area high school players who turned out for the first day of two-a-day practice sessions for the upcoming season, with the first day of full contact coming on Friday.

Schools in session before Aug. 18 were permitted to begin last Friday. The Ohio High School Athletic Association moved up the start of practice and the beginning of the season in hopes of avoiding potentially inclement weather later in the fall.

The Rebels will begin play Friday, Aug. 22, by hosting Sandusky. The starting date is the earliest ever in Ohio. This season will feature the addition of two teams to the City League - Whitmer and Clay, both former members of the now-defunct Great Lakes League.
