CITY: Hood propels Whitmer win

Edwin Hood piled up 231 yards on 29 carries and scored three touchdowns as Whitmer defeated Start 34-27 last night.

The Panther defense also contributed by forcing three turnovers and blocking a Spartan extra point.

Hood tallied on runs of 27, 2 and 4 yards as Whitmer (1-0, 4-0) rolled to 317 yards rushing.

Start (0-1, 1-3) had a big game from quarterback Herman Scott, who tossed completed 18 passes for 286 yards and three touchdowns and ran one yard for another score.

Asante White had eight catches and Brandon Blackman scored twice for the Spartans.

Rams quarterback Brandon Garcia completed 17 of 32 passes for 259 yards and two touchdowns, but was picked off three times, twice by Lonzo Rivers, in the loss to the Rebels.

Aaron Polte paced Bowsher (1-0, 2-2) with 79 yards on 19 carries, while Arthur Allen added 73 yards and a touchdown on 23 attempts.

Allen also scored on an 88-yard kickoff return.

Fred Davis had seven receptions, including two touchdowns, for 126 yards for Rogers (0-1, 1-3).

Receiver Matt Bell scored three touchdowns and running back Ryan Kersey two in the Knights' rout at Clay.

Bell hauled in TD receptions of 10 and 37 yards from quarterback Kevin Bingle and a 36-yarder from Brandon Spewick.

Kersey rushed for 107 yards on 20 carries, with 103 coming in the first half. He tallied the first two TDs for the Knights on runs of five and two yards.

St. Francis (1-0, 3-1) piled up 252 yards on 49 rushes and completed 9 of 16 passes for 151 yards.

Clay (0-1, 1-3) was limited to 98 yards overall.

The Bulldogs opened up a 21-point lead in the first quarter.

Romen Walton got Scott (1-0, 2-2) on the scoreboard first with a five-yard run, before Jayron Kynard answered with an 88-yard touchdown run.

Walton added TD runs of 12 and 42 yards.

Keith Pope had a pair of touchdown runs for Scott and Anthony Glover scored one.

Kynard posted a team-high 155 yards rushing and Donte Turner added 70 yards receiving for Libbey (0-1, 1-3).
