NWOAL: Archbold prevails in defensive battle

ARCHBOLD - It was definitely a defensive battle.

Archbold defeated Liberty Center 42-21 in a Northwest Ohio Athletic League game last night without having a scorer in double figures.

Joel Ruffer led the Blue Streaks with nine points and grabbed eight of his team s 18 rebounds.

DJ Selgo and Josh Johnson each added eight points and Dan Borcherdt had seven.

Brian Babcock tallied 10 points for Liberty Center, which had only four players score.

Archbold outrebounded Liberty Center 18-15 and hit 14 of 44 shots from the field to LC s 7 of 28.

The Streaks were 13 of 16 from the foul line the Liberty Center s 7 of 12.

BRYAN - Chris Carpenter scored 22 points and Ryan Buell added 11 for Bryan.

Ian Weber led Tinora with 11.

Tinora outrebounded Bryan 26-23, but the Golden Bears forced 13 turnovers and committed only seven.

Bryan made 11 of 16 foul shots to tinora s 5 of 9.

WAUSEON - Jake Reckner scored 21 points as Wauseon (2-0) knocked off Evergreen.

Wauseon jumped out to a 20-8 advantage after the first quarter and never looked back.

Kyle Storrer posted 13 points and Brock Gibson added 11 for Wauseon.

Travis Dowling scored 11 points for Evergreen (2-1) and Nick Langenderfer added 10.

Wauseon shot 58 percent from the floor and forced Evergreen to turn the ball over 19 times.

DELTA - Trent Meyer and Marc Krauss each scored 22 points to pace the 2-0 Patriots.

Aaron Mahnke scored 18 for Delta, including 16 in the second half, and Clint Russell added 13 for Delta.

The Patriots blanked the Panthers 17-0 in the first quarter.

SWANTON - Dustin Martinich scored 15 points and Curtis Moore added 12 to pace Montpelier.

Zach Weagly led Swanton with 15.

Swanton outscored Montpelier 14-5 for a 24-16 halftime lead, but the Locomotives rolled in the second half by a 26-7 count.
