NLL: Southview hot early, burns AW

Southview hit seven of its first eight attempts from 3-point range and scored 36 points in the second quarter to drop Anthony Wayne 89-63 last night in Northern Lakes League play.

The Cougars hit 34 of 61 field goals (56 percent) and outrebounded the visiting Generals 40-30.

Southview (4-1, 2-1) also forced 27 turnovers to hand Anthony Wayne (2-2, 2-1) its first league loss.

Steve Kyser scored 25 points, Ray Thomas had 17 and Jamar Murchinson 16 for the Cougars.

Joe McVicker paced the Generals with 22 points.

Michael Graffin poured in 30 points, all on 3-pointers, to pace the Bobcats, who jumped to a 49-31 lead at the half.

Andrew Vroman chipped in 23 and Jimmy Green added 18 more for Bowling Green.

Chris Poellnitz led the Panthers with 34 points and Jake Causer tossed in another 18.

Northview jumped out to a 12-3 lead and held on for the win, making 8 of 11 of its free-throw attempts in the fourth quarter.

J.G. Belker led the Wildcats (3-2, 2-1) with 16 points.

Dee Alexander topped Springfield (0-3, 0-2) with 17 points, while Fletcher Noble added 11.

Mike Dhondt hit nine free throws in racking up 18 total points, and Brian Winkleman added 17 and Joe Craig 15 for the victorious Yellow Jackets (2-2, 2-1).

The Bulldogs (3-2, 1-2) were paced by Kevin Keller s 17 points. Jacob Smock knocked in 11.
