Boys basketball roundup: Johnson paces St. Francis

C.J. Johnson scored 21 points to lead St. Francis de Sales to a 65-56 boys basketball victory last night over visiting Findlay.

Drew Donovan added 15 points, Darryl Roberts had 14 and Kevin Bingle grabbed 11 rebounds for the Knights (8-4).

Jack Miller led Findlay (7-3) with 13 points and Tyler Hughes added 10.

St. Francis made 16 of 20 foul shots to Findlay s 5 of 6.

BEDFORD 60, WHITMER 53

TEMPERANCE, Mich. - Five Bedford players scored eight or more points as the Mules whipped Whitmer.

Brian Champine led the way for Bedford (9-1) with 16 points, including seven in the fourth quarter. Jake Welch added 14, Matt Doberstein 12 and Brandon Balk 10.

Todd Lindroth led Whitmer (4-6) with 12 points (10 in the fourth quarter), aided by 11 from Jermaine Fletcher and J.J. Fought and 10 from Andre Thompson.

SCOTT 64, N. ROYALTON 58

NORTH CANTON - Romeo Alexander scored a game-high 22 points to lead Scott to a victory over North Royalton at North Canton Hoover.

Vershawn Chears added 13 points and Antoine Lovings posted 12 points for the 8-3 Bulldogs.

A 14-7 third-quarter advantage helped Scott take control.

LOUDONVILLE 61, START 40

NORTH CANTON - Robby Long scored 13 points and Justin Morris added 12 for Start at North Canton Hoover, but the Spartans made just 4 of 12 free throws to Loudonville s 15 of 23.

Start trailed 32-14 by halftime.

CELINA 68, CENTRAL CATHOLIC 49

CELINA - Celina opened up the game on a 16-8 run against Central Catholic (6-5).

Dan Amato paced the Irish with 20 points.

Celina (9-2) was led by Tim Homan s 28 points.

SPRINGFIELD 61, DELTA 49

DELTA - Dee Alexander scored 26 points and Fletcher Noble added 20 as the Blue Devils won for the first time this season.

Alexander made four treys and Noble made three.

Clint Russel paced Delta with 24 points.

WOODMORE 55, GENOA 48

ELMORE - Tyler Rosenberger recorded 26 points and nine rebounds to lead Woodmore.

David Bowen scored 12 points, while posting four assists and four steals for the Wildcats (8-3, 4-1 SLL).

Zach Alt and Zach Diekman scored 11 points apiece for Genoa (5-7, 4-3).

Woodmore broke the game open with a 19-13 advantage in the second quarter.

EASTWOOD 68, LAKOTA 43

PEMBERVILLE - Kevin Leady had 16 points, Joe Mulder 10 and 11 players scored for Eastwood (6-4, 5-2 SLL).

Bryan Chaney had 13 and Andrew Holtman 10 for Lakota (2-9, 0-7).

OTSEGO 70, ELMWOOD 52

TONTOGANY - Damien Montelongo led four Knights in double figures with 21 points, and Otsego hit 10 of 13 free throws in the fourth quarter when it outscored the visitors 22-7.

Casey McDonald and Chad Zellin added 13 points apiece and Jordan Murphy contributed 12 points and 11 rebounds for the Knights (6-5, 5-2 SLL). Donald took down 10 boards.

Adam Blachuta tallied 12 and Kyle Rhoad 10 for Elmwood (6-5, 4-3).

Otsego was 18-of-23 at the foul line to the Royals 6-of-14.

GIBSONBURG 67, LAKE 55

GIBSONBURG - Marcus Ahle scored 10 of his 17 points in the fourth quarter when Gibsonburg outscored the visitors 22-16.

Nathan Kirwen also tallied 17, going 4-for-4 on 3-pointers, and Drew Williamson added 13 and six assists for the Golden Bears (4-6, 3-4 SLL). Ahle also chipped in with nine rebounds.

Rocky Garcia scored 19 and Todd McPherson and Tyler Steedman had 11 each for Lake (3-8, 1-6).

WAUSEON 71, DEFIANCE 57

WAUSEON - The Indians shot 55 percent from the field and held a 30-19 rebounding edge.

Wauseon shot 22 of 40 from the floor and 27 of 34 from line (79 percent).

Jake Reckner tallied 29 points and Aaron Lakia added 10 for the Indians (10-0, 4-0).

Austin Keel scored 18, L.J. Helton had 14 and Graham Wagner 11 for Defiance (2-6).

LIBERTY CENTER - Kasey Bodenbender scored 11 points as Liberty Center held off Holgate.

Earnest Ferguson led Holgate with 13.

Liberty center made 11 of 20 free throws to Holgate s 6 of 11, and outrebounded the visitors 29-20.

EDON - Mark Smith scored 36 points as Edon prevailed in triple overtime.

Clay Tingley added 14 points for the Bombers.
