Girls roundup: Start ends Central s win streak

Vicki Brown scored 20 points and grabbed 15 rebounds to lead Start to a 57-48 win over Central Catholic last night that ended Central s 84-game winning streak in the City League.

Candice Coleman added 11 points for the Spartans (9-3, 6-3).

Jessica Minnfield paced the Irish (10-5, 8-1) with 20 points.

The teams were tied after the first quarter, but Start dominated the second quarter 17-7.

Start out-rebounded the Irish 40-30.

Start s defense had 14 steals and forced Central to turn the ball over 24 times.

CLAY 76, ST. URSULA 51

Kate Achter scored 30 points, Nina Mlynek added 17 and Erica Kayser 14 for Clay (11-3, 6-2).

St. Ursula got 14 from Ali Florian.

The Eagles forced numerous turnovers that they converted into a 21-10 lead after one quarter.

NOTRE DAME 61,

WOODWARD 30

The Eagles flew to an 18-2 first-quarter edge in the home-court blowout.

Kristen Kerscher led Notre Dame (9-4, 5-3) with 13 points. Every player on the Eagle roster scored but one.

Regina Nicholson scored 17 points for the Polar Bears (3-11, 0-8).

SCOTT 66, WAITE 51

The Bulldogs dominated the first half, surging to a 34-19 lead, and the Indians couldn t catch up.

Krystle Sudduth, Kamila Howze and Mattie Mays led Scott (6-5, 4-4) with 17, 14 and 12 points, respectively.

Waite (7-8, 3-6) had four girls in double scoring figures - Gennett McCarver (17), Shareese Ulis (13), Tatyna McNeal (11) and Lakina Cleveland (10) - but no other Indian scored.

WHITMER 57, LIBBEY 36

Whitmer rode a 31-20 halftime lead to an easy victory over Libbey on the road as Linda Ubokudom paced the Panthers with 13 points. Sara Shepard added 10 points.

Evette Mosby topped the Cowboys with 10 points.

BOWSHER 78, ROGERS 27

Stephany Johnson led three Bowsher players in double figures with 22 points as the Rebels dominated Rogers.

Jazlyn Davis added 19 points and Lamesha Johnson posted 11 points for Bowsher.

The Rebels controlled every quarter and lead at halftime 34-11.
