Eagles sweep SLL track

MILLBURY - Genoa s boys won eight events, but Eastwood won five and parlayed its depth into the championship at the Suburban Lakes League track and field meet yesterday at Lake.

The Eagles had 184 points to the Comets 146.

Eastwood flew to the girls championship, piling up 213 points to 100.5 for runner-up Gibsonburg.

Genoa s Kyle Riffle won three individual events with a record time in the 200, and anchored the 1600 relay team which also won in record time. He won the 100 in 11.1, the 200 in 22.1, and the 400 in 50.7.

The 1600 relay team of Andrew Hartman, Zach Alt, Adam Edens and Riffle won in 3:26.3.

Hartman also won both the 110 and 300-meter hurdles, and Edens won the long jump and placed second to teammate Ryan Cicak in the high jump.

Eastwood had 1-2 finishes in the pole vault (Josh Schulte and Jesse Whitt, both 13-0) and the 800 (Jimmy O Brien and Doug Russell). O Brien also won the 1600, with Russell placing third.

Corey Johnson won the 3,200 in 10:10.

Danielle Thornton won the 200 and 400 for Eastwood, and ran on the record-setting 800 and 1,600 relay teams.

Melissa Schulte won the long jump. Amy Helm and Lizzie Lahey joined Schulte and Thornton on the 800 team (1:47). Schulte, Lindy Donaldson, Lahey and Thornton made up the 1600 relay champs (4:10.5). Christi Lahey won the 100 and anchored the winning 400 relay.

Emily Pendleton of Woodmore tossed the discus a record 138-2 and Betsy Wonderly of Gibsonburg won the pole vault with a record 9-0.
