10/6/2004

Three alumni of Bedford High School were inducted into the school's hall of fame at the Oct. 1 football game at Bedford Community Stadium.

Buffy Williams Ruddy, a 1989 graduate who was an outstanding volleyball player as a Bedford student, was named to the All State First Team in the 1988 and 1989 academic years.

During her high school days, Mrs. Ruddy set school records with 46 assists in a match, 989 in a season and 2,729 in her career. She was named the Monroe County Region Volleyball Player of the Decade for the 1980s.

When she left Bedford, Mrs. Ruddy attended Michigan State University on a full scholarship. A mother of a 10-month-old son, Mrs. Ruddy is expecting another child in January.

David Simpson, a 1985 Bedford graduate, was a multi-sport athlete in football, track, and wrestling. A highlight of Mr. Simpson's high school sports career was in 1985 when he was the state's heavyweight champion.

An outstanding football player, Mr. Simpson also threw the shot put on the track team. He attended Michigan State University on a football scholarship.

A father of three, Mr. Simpson lives in Marysville, Ohio.

Also inducted into the Hall of Fame is Jim Kindle, a 1970 graduate who played on the 1969-1970 basketball team. It was the only Bedford team in school history to win a district title.

Now a father of two, Mr. Kindle set several school records, some of which still stand, including: 45 points in a game, 22 assists and a 100 percent field goal percentage for a game when he went 11 for 11 from the floor. In his high school career, Mr. Kindle scored over 1,000 points and went on to play college basketball at Bowling Green State University and the University of Toledo.

The 2004 inductees were introduced at halftime activities in Friday's football game and will be honored on Nov. 5 at the school's Hall of Fame and Induction Ceremony.
