Willis, Amato pace Central

Chris Willis ran 11 times for 94 yards and a touchdown, and Dan Amato kicked a pair of field goals and a couple PATs as Central Catholic handed Bowsher its first City League loss, 20-0 last night at Waite.

Willis scampered 58 yards for a TD that gave the Irish (6-2, 3-2) a 14-0 lead at the half. Neil Mitchell scored from the 7 in the first quarter.

Amato, who also completed 7 of 16 passes for 63 yards, wrapped up the scoring with 22 and 39-yard field goals in the second half.

The Rebels (6-2, 4-1) were held to 100 yards rushing. Arthur Allen got 40 yards on 24 carries. Mickey Jewell connected on 5 of 16 passes for 53 yards.

Central ran for 223 yards.

St. John's 41, Scott 6

Marcus Waugh rushed 15 times for 101 yards and scored four touchdowns in the first half for the Titans, who led 35-0 at the break.

Rusty Marvin added 85 yards, including a 32-yard TD run, on 12 carries for St. John's Jesuit (5-3, 4-1).

The Titans gained 231 yards rushing and Andrew Vollmar (3-for-6) added 48 through the air.

Romen Walton, who carried 21 times for 91 of Scott's 212 rushing yards, scored in the fourth quarter from the 2 for the Bulldogs (3-5, 1-4).

Whitmer 24, Waite 7

Nick Specht ran for 144 yards and two touchdowns - one a 63-yarder - as his Panthers beat the Indians.

Teamwise, Whitmer rushed 36 times for 225 yards with the rushing game making all the difference as the Indians managed only 53 yards on 37 rushes. Whitmer had only one more yard passing, 79-78.

J.J. Fought fired a 63-yard TD pass to Kyle Andrews in the second quarter and completed 3 of 5 passes for the 79 yards before leaving the game with an injury shortly before halftime.

Patrick Carmean added a 32-yard field goal for the Panthers.

The Indians (0-8, 0-5) averted a shutout with 34 seconds left when Howie LaCourse capped a 49-yard drive after Waite forced Whitmer (5-3, 4-1) to punt from its own 10-yard line.

St. Francis 20, Start 6

Robert Garza rushed 36 times through the mud for 161 yards, including a four-yard touchdown as the Knights kept their league record unblemished (5-0).

The 7-1 Knights amassed 225 yards rushing but fumbled four times, losing three.

Brandon Speweik scored for St. Francis on a seven-yard run and Chris Fudacz picked off one of Mike Berman's passes and returned it 32 yards to cement the victory.

Berman threw 24 yards to Gerald Archer for the only Spartan (2-6, 1-4) score.
