Girls basketball roundup: Strong third quarter helps Central prevail

OLENTANGY, Ohio - Central Catholic outscored Delaware Hayes 23-6 in the third quarter on the way to a 63-46 girls basketball victory yesterday in the Liberty High School Thanksgiving Classic.

The Irish (2-0) trailed 27-21 at the half.

"I think we had our travel legs in the first half," Central coach Steve Pfahler said. "We kicked up our defense in the second half, got some steals and wore them out."

Jessica Minnfield led the Irish with 17 points. Mallory Strall and Ellen Herman had 12 aipece.

Ashleigh Brown paced Hayes (1-1) with 19 points.

CLEVELAND COLLINWOOD 65, LIBBEY 58

Kadiya Gregory exploded for 25 points, but it wasn't enough as Libbey dropped a tough contest to Cleveland Collinwood.

ST. URSULA 65, ANTHONY WAYNE 38

Ali Florian scored 14 points and Jena Blosser added 11 for St. Ursula. Michelle Rairigh paced the Generals with nine.

Blosser had the game's only trey.

The Arrows broke open a tight game by outscoring the Generals 23-13 in the third quarter.

NORTH CANTON HOOVER 67, PERRYSBURG 44

Ashley Parrish and Tiffany Calevro recorded 11 points apiece, but Perrysburg fell to North Canton Hoover and dropped to 2-1 on the season.

SWANTON 52, MAUMEE 29

Visiting Swanton got 20 points from Chelsea White and 13 from Abby LaVigne.

Shelly Warner paced Maumee with 12.

ARCHBOLD 66, DELTA 29

ARCHBOLD - Sarah Grime paced the Streaks with 20 points and Tara Gustwiller added 10. Lauren Ruple led Delta with 13.

DANBURY 68, TOLEDO CHRISTIAN 61

Emily Cellier erupted for 31 points for Toledo Christian, but Danbury connected on 24 of 48 free throws and won the Toledo Area Athletic Conference game in overtime.

Sarah Kovach led Danbury with 17 points.

EMMANUEL BAPTIST 47, LIMA TEMPLE 27

Shalica McCorey had 13, Jolie Steele 12 and Justine Christiaanse 11 for Emmanuel Baptist.

VAN BUREN 53, NORTHWOOD 49

VAN BUREN - Brittany Ramsey led Van Buren with 20 points and Rae McKee added 12.

Brittany Bogart had 15 points and 12 rebounds for Northwood. Kelly Agler added 14 points and Laryn Ziegler had 10.

FINDLAY 94, SANDUSKY 52

SANDUSKY - Carlee Roethlisberger scored 22 points, Allie Niekamp added 14 and and Tashe Jacobs and Kellyn Tisci scored 12 each as Findlay romped.

A.J. Gant led Sandusky with 16 points.

CLYDE 58, OAK HARBOR 44

OAK HARBOR - Jenny Miller had 14 and Amanda Salines 13 for Clyde. Erica Li[straw led Oak Harbor with 11.

FOSTORIA 63, GALION 41

GALION - Lee Downing had 16 and Brittant Pessell 15 for Fostoria.

MILLER CITY 51, HOLGATE 31

MILLER CITY - Stacey Niese had 15 for Miller City and Beth Giesige had 15 for Holgate.

FAYETTE 72, ANTWERP 47

FAYETTE - Samantha Schaffner led four players in double figures with 19 points as Fayette scored 72 with only four treys and four made foul shots.

FREMONT ST. JOE 57, NORTH BALTIMORE 31

FREMONT - Becky Babione scored 15 points and grabbed eight rebounds for St. Joseph. Bri Rensch scored 12 for North Baltimore.

CALVERT 58, OLD FORT 20

TIFFIN - Amanda Ritzler poured in 23 points for Calvert.

OTTAWA-GLANDORF 70, LIMA CC 43

OTTAWA - Lesley Elliott paced Ottawa-Glandorf with 14 points.

MARION HARDING 45, FREMONT ROSS 43

FREMONT - Tia Simms and Paige Kingsborough posted 12 points apiece for Fremont Ross. Sarita Feliciano and Misty Egglepon led Marion Harding to the win, also with 12 points each.
