Boys basketball roundup: Start gets by Findlay

Grant Maxey scored with 2.5 seconds remaining in the game last night to give Start a 40-38 boys basketball victory over visiting Findlay.

Terrell Jones hit a pair of treys to pull the Spartans even at 38 before Maxey delivered.

Jermaine Jones paced Start (7-5) in scoring with 11 points. Maxey had eight points and 12 rebounds.

Findlay (12-5) got 15 points from Jesse Wohl.

Start survived hitting just 8 of 21 free-throw attempts. Findlay hit 5 of 11.

WHITMER 41, BEDFORD 38

Nick Specht hit a 3-pointer with a minute to go for a 37-36 lead, then J.J. Fought hit four free throws in the final minute for Whitmer (5-6).

Fought and Kevin Koger scored 10 apiece for the Panthers.

Derick Seymour led visiting Bedford (5-3) with 17 points.

ELIDA 64, ST. FRANCIS 48

ELIDA - Darryl Roberts poured in 25 points and Chris Kantner added 10 for St. Francis, but while the Knights (9-3) closed a 10-point first-quarter deficit to three at the half, they were outscored 22-12 in the third quarter.

Jason Sarno scored 25 points and Mike Smith had 14 for Elida (10-2).

L.B. McNeal posted eight rebounds for St. Francis.

CLAY 95, SOUTHVIEW 59

Wes Taylor threw in 10 of his game-high 24 points in the first quarter and Brett McDougle added nine as the hot-shooting Eagles bolted to a 30-14 lead at home. After John Nelson scored 10 in the second quarter Clay was up 59-24.

McDougle finished with 20 points for the Eagles (9-3), Nelson had 15 and A.J. Achter 13.

Alex Merrell tallied 22 points and Brian Kramer had 13 for Southview (5-8).

SHAWNEE 57, WOODWARD 52

LIMA - Jordan Swift led Shawnee with 15. Woodward got 18 from Robert Bell, 13 from Robert Barner and 10 from Dejuane Pettaway.

PATRICK HENRY 64, ROSSFORD 50

Justin Sonnenberg paced the Patriots (5-4) with an 18-point night. Ben Botjer and Brian Yarnell followed with 13 and 11 points, respectively.

Dylan Jewell led the way for the host Bulldogs (2-11) with 12 points. Sean Kanary followed with 10 points.

WOODMORE 59, BRYAN 47

BRYAN - Brian Perkins scored 24 points and Tyler Rosenberger added 21, including eight of Woodmore's nine made free throws.

Jason Keeler led Bryan with 18 and Kolbrin Vitek added 12.

LAKOTA 60, BETTSVILLE 56

BETTSVILLE - Trever Hohman scored 24 points to pace Lakota while Greg Weller had 24 for Bettsville.

LIBERTY CENTER 44, HILLTOP 22

WEST UNITY - Kasey Bodenbender led Liberty Center with 12 points while Jeremy Cash had a dozen for Hilltop.

Liberty Center hit 4 of 10 treys while Hilltop went 0-for-10.

WAUSEON 58, DELTA 55

WAUSEON - Jake Reckner scored 19, Elliott Mealer added 10 and Raymond Downing hit crucial free throws down the stretch for Wauseon (9-4).

Kyle Bostater led Delta with 21, Clint Russell added 11 and Josh Williams 10.

PETTISVILLE 30, EVERGREEN 18

PETTISVILLE - Justin Rufenacht scored 14 points, and Pettisville's 14-point fourth quarter was the only double-digit quarter for either team.

SWANTON 45, MONCLOVA CHRISTIAN 40

Derek Boltz scored 16, Brad Betz had 13 and visiting Swanton prevailed in overtime. Betz's 3-pointer forced the extra session.

Derek Merrin had 13 and Matt Velaquez 12 for Monclova Christian.

MONTPELIER - Josh Daft scored 19, A.J. Hephner had 17 and David Bauer 12 for Montpelier.

BASCOM - Eric McCloskey scored 15 points, Mike Ameling 14 and A.J. LaCourse 10 for Cardinal Stritch.

LAKESIDE - Jake Fanning poured in 26 points for Danbury (11-0, 6-0 TAAC).

Brian Schenko had 12 points and eight rebounds and Jarret Ensign added 11 points.

Ryan Redmann led Ottawa Hills (8-4, 5-1) with 20 points.

Scott Nietz and Brian Dunnett scored 19 points apiece for Emmanuel Baptist (6-5, 2-4).

FREMONT - John Ducsay scored 16 points and Tiffin

Columbian canned 24 of 31 free throws.

Adam Gries led Fremont Ross with 20.

HOLGATE - Drew Clady scored 17 and Lee Brubaker added 10 as Holgate improved to 10-3.

Holgate went 9-of-14 from the foul line and Napoleon was 0-for-1.
