Holgate, Stryker win low-scoring games

NAPOLEON - It didn't take many points to win a Division IV district semifinal game last night at Napoleon High School.

Holgate topped Antwerp 45-26 and Stryker topped Hicksville 41-38.

Holgate (18-4) and Stryker (16-7) will meet here for a district title Friday night at 7.

Holgate got 21 points from Lee Brubaker and 12 from Andy Gerschultz.

Mitch Fowler led Antwerp (10-12) with 10.

Holgate was outrebounded 23-16 but forced 17 turnovers and committed just seven.

For Stryker, Nick Lloyd scored 18 and Jacob Bernath added 15.

Nathan Headley led Hicksville (11-11) with 16 and Blayne Welling had 11.

Taking care of the ball was important in this game, too, as Hicksville won on the boards 26-14 but committed 18 turnovers to Stryker's seven.

ST. PETER 72, DANBURY 66

WILLARD - Brandon Speck scored 22 points, Parker Grove had 19 and Edwin Haney 15 as Mansfield St. Peter (12-10) surprised Danbury.

Jake Fanning poured in 36 for the Lakers (19-3) and Jarret Ensign added 14.

Danbury outscored St. Pete 20-15 at the free-throw line but St. Pete hit seven treys to Danbury's four.

ST. JOE 48, LUCAS 47

WILLARD - David Rice scored 19 points as Fremont St. Joe won in overtime.

Rice hit 9 of 14 field goal attempts and his only foul shot. He also grabbed eight rebounds for St. Joe (14-8).

While Rice was scoring in close, his teammates went 2-for-24 on 3-point attempts. St. Joe hit 19 of 49 tries overall and 8 of 9 at the foul line. Lucas drops out at 11-11.

ST. WENDELIN 66

FOSTORIA - Ryan Kommick and Aaron Mass scored 20 points apiece, and Mass grabbed 11 rebounds to pace Tiffin Calvert (18-4).

Brad Walliser added 11 for Calvert, which outscored St. Wendelin 38-28 in the second half.

St. Wendelin (17-5) placed four in double figures as Chad Ritzler scored 19, Jamie Sacksteder 15, Sam Boehnlein 13 and Tony Maag 10.

Calvert hit 14 of 25 free throws to St. Wendelin's 6 of 10.
