Regional softball: Mohawk tops Elmwood to gain crown

ASHLAND - Mohawk scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and defeated Elmwood 7-6 yesterday in a Division III softball regional championship game.

Callie Coppus was the winning pitcher and had two of her team's seven hits, including a triple. Mohawk is 29-2.

Brittany Dauterman took the loss for Elmwood (24-3).

She gave up seven runs on six hits and six walks with eight strikeouts.

Angie Oler, Brooke Morgart and Kelly Wagner had two hits apiece for Elmwood.

Wagner had a double and a long home run and finished with three RBIs. The Royals had nine hits.

FINDLAY - Convoy Crestview remained unbeaten through 27 games, but it took eight innings to eliminate Gibsonburg 2-1 in a Division IV softball regional final.

Jaime Perkins picked up the victory. She gave up five hits and had nine strikeouts. Alisha Etzler hit a home run and Kristoll Johnson had an RBI single.

Ali Warren took the loss. She gave up seven hits and fanned two.

Alexis Donnell forced extra innings with an RBI single in the bottom of the seventh and Julie Beaschler had two singles for the Golden Bears (18-8).
