City: Special teams bolster Central

Chris Willis ran for 148 yards and a touchdown, as Central Catholic edged out Clay 31-24 in City League football last night.

The Irish controlled the game on special teams as Dane Sanzenbacher returned a punt 81 yards and Phil Reynolds blocked a punt and dashed 20 yards for a score.

Central's Kevin Boyle hauled in a touchdown pass from Kevin Jansen.

The Irish piled up 201 total yards, while the Eagles racked up 302 yards of total offense.

Clay's A.J. Achter caught three and seven-yard touchdown passes from Brent Graham in the losing effort.

Graham completed 18-of-37 passes for 190 yards and also ran for a touchdown.

Scott 28, Bowsher 6

Derek Bobo ran for 130 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Bulldogs.

Bobo scored on 5 and 17-yard runs in the second quarter and added 37 and 77-yard bursts in the fourth for Scott (5-3, 3-2).

Ryan Ehrhardt scored on a one-yard run for the Rebels (1-7, 0-5) in the third quarter.

Antwoine Ramsey carried 21 times for 142 yards for the Bulldogs.

St. Francis 28, Woodward 7

Cody Enos ran over and through the Polar Bears for 151 yards and three touchdowns, and the Knights held Woodward off the scoreboard until Makonnen Rice scored in the fourth quarter after St. Francis was ahead 28-0.

St. Francis (4-4, 3-1) put up 362 yards of net total offense to 141 for the Polar Bears (2-6, 2-3).

Derrick Canales scored the Knights' final TD on a four-yard run.

Rice carried 28 times for 96 of Woodward's 120 rushing yards.

St. Francis had 293 yards on the ground and 69 through the air.

Start 34, Libbey 7

Start's Jeno DeLuca ran for 96 yards and a pair of first-quarter touchdowns, and A.J. Whitmore kicked a pair of field goals and four extra points to pace the Spartans in their first win of the season.

Both teams carried 0-7, 0-4 records into the game.

Quinton Stewart ran seven yards for another TD and Mike Lucas caught a four-yard scoring strike from Brad Leestma (20 of 38 for 276 yards).

Libbey's Aaron Smith capped the game's scoring with a two-yard run and led the Cowboys with 55 yards on 16 carries.

The Cowboys threw one interception and lost a fumble.
