Girls basketball: Matyi leads Maumee to OT victory

Sasha Matyi hit two 3-pointers in overtime as Maumee topped Swanton 63-55 last night in girls basketball.

Matyi, a 5-8 sophomore, had 14 points - all in the fourth quarter and overtime. She was one of five players who scored in double figures for the visiting Panthers. Lindsay Diegel had 17, Ashley Haas and Bridget Kolbow 11 each, and Ann DeAngelo 10.

Abby LaVigne had 19 points, Tiffany Willson 17 and Michelle Wilson 10 for Swanton.

HOLGATE 73,

TOLEDO CHRISTIAN 49

Cassie Giesige totaled 20 points while Beth Giesige and Liza Clady each added 13 for Holgate (3-0).

Visiting Holgate outscored Toledo Christian 45-20 in the second half and made 12 3-pointers.

Emily Cellier led Toledo Christian (0-2) with 15 points and Jacki Emmenecker added 14.

GENOA 68,

NORTHWOOD 60

Abbey Kontak poured in 24 points and Brittany Darling 14 as visiting Genoa (1-2) held off Northwood (0-3).

Brittany Bogart paced the Rangers with 19 points, while Laryn Ziegler added 18 and Marissa Reighard 11.

ROSSFORD 54,

MAUMEE VALLEY 37

Rossford outscored Maumee Valley 21-0 in the first quarter.

The visiting Bulldogs' Katie Keller had 10 of her 22 points in the first quarter as Maumee Valley (0-2) was held to fewer than five shots.

Alexis Holman hit 16 for the Hawks in three quarters to close the gap.

DEFIANCE - Erin Garmyn paced Tinora with 11 and Kristen McEwen had 11 for the Tigers.
