Lightner leads Scott over Waite

Kyle Lightner scored 19 points as Scott bounced back from a poor first quarter to defeat Waite 63-49 last night in City League play.

Visiting Waite (1-2, 0-1) led 17-7 after one quarter, but Scott (2-0, 1-0) rebounded to outscore the Indians 22-8 in the second and 16-9 in the third to take control.

Grant Maxey added 13 points and Marcus Outlaw 10 for the Bulldogs.

Brent Riley paced Waite with 15 and Mark Worthan added 13.

Central 52, Defiance 35

Central Catholic jumped to a 10-2 lead after one quarter and beat visiting Defiance.

Nine players scored for the Irish in their opener, led by Sam Bastian with 14 and Rasheed Burton with 12.

Kane Wagner led Defiance with 14 and Steve Riedel added 10.

Central made 8 of 11 free throws to Defiance's 12 of 18, but the Irish dominated the boards 40-27.

St. Francis 58, Woodward 46

Darryl Roberts scored 17 points, including 13 from the free throw line, to pace the Knights (2-0, 1-0).

L.B. McNeal added nine points and grabbed 11 rebounds for the Knights.

Roberts had six assists.

St. Francis, which led 23-4 after one quarter, hit 23 of 35 from the line but scored just one 3-pointer in the first game in the renovated Pit.

Brandon Wright paced visiting Woodward with nine points.

Libbey 89, Whitmer 47

William Buford led Libbey with 21 points in three quarters of action.

P.J. Pearson added 16 points and grabbed 13 rebounds for the Cowboys (2-0, 1-0), and Byron Johnson had 13 points.

Beau Norton paced Whitmer with 15 and Ryan Smith added 12.

The Cowboys led 40-19 by halftime and were never threatened.

Bowsher 46, Rogers 45

Kenny Hairston scored just five points, but his two free throws with 0.7 seconds remaining in the game gave visiting Bowsher a victory.

Adam Crisp paced the Rebels with 21 points, including five treys,.

London Cunningham paced Rogers with 17 and Deron Williams had 16.

The Rebels made just 10 of 21 free throws and the Rams just 8 of 18.

St. John's 64, Clay 56

Andrew Taylor scored 20 points to pace the Titans (2-0, 1-0) to a road win.

Joe Jakubowski added 17 points and Jonathan Dunn had 14.

Wes Taylor paced Clay (0-2, 0-1) with 24 points, Derek Spencer aded 12 and A.J. Achter had 11.

The Eagles trailed just 56-53 with a minute to go.
