Boys basketball roundup: Taylor gets 33 in Clay win; St. John's, St. Francis prevail

Clay jumped out to an early 27-10 lead after the first quarter last night on the way to an 82-68 victory over Perrysburg on the Eagles' floor.

Wes Taylor led Clay (1-2) with 33 points while Derek Spencer and A.J. Achter added 14 and 13, respectively.

Scott Perkins paced Perrysburg (2-2) with 25 points and Tom Milne scored 17.

ST. JOHN'S 67, FREMONT ROSS 57

FREMONT - St. John's pulled away slightly with a six-point cushion in the third quarter to move to 3-0.

Jon Dunn topped the Titans with 22 points, while Michael Taylor added 15 and Andrew Taylor 12.

Adam Gries had 15 points and nine rebounds for the Little Giants (2-2).

ST. VINCENT-ST. MARY'S 80, LIBBEY 63

AKRON - Marcus Johnson led St. Vincent-St. Mary with 15 points,.

William Buford paced Libbey with 27 points. P.J. Pearson added 15 points and 19 rebounds.

MAUMEE 62, ROGERS 58

Joey Albright poured in 24 points and Lamonte and Kipp Dawson added 14 and 10, respectively, for the visiting Panthers (2-2), who jumped to a 16-7 lead after the first quarter and held on.

Deron Williams paced the Rams (0-3) with 24 points and Chris Murray had 11.

ST. FRANCIS 70, NORTHVIEW 61

Darryl Roberts scored 23 points to lead four players in double figures for the visiting Knights, who improved to 3-0.

Chris Wise had 14 points, Marlon Price 12 and Brian Martin 10 for St. Francis, which jumped out to a 21-8 lead after the first quarter.

Northview (1-2) also had four players in double figures, led by Derek Andrzejczak's 17. Matt Wade added 14 points, Sam Myers 13 and Brian Koehl 12.

WOODWARD 74, MAUMEE VALLEY 40

Shannon Grice paced the Polar Bears with 21, Marty Overton had 11 points and 13 rebounds, ,and 12 players scored for Woodward.

Chris Sackmann scored 14 for visiting Maumee Valley.

Visiting Rossford placed four in double figures as Josh Duly scored 17, Dan Wagner 15, Eric Kralovic 13 and Ryan Jewell 11.

Josh Rhodes paced Swanton with 12 and Brad Betz added 10.

GENOA 78, LAKOTA 50

GENOA - The Comets placed five in double figures as Chris Bassitt had 13, Adam Schumacher and Cory Hornyak had 11 apiece, Taylor Skees had 12 and Anthony Robertson 10.

Robertson also had 11 rebounds.

Trever Hohman led Lakota with 25 points.

MILLBURY- Casey Donald scored 25 points for Otsego and Chris Falls added 15.

Bryan Conley scored 16 for Lake.

GIBSONBURG - Nate Kirwen scored 16 points and Derek Wasserman added 10 for Gibsonburg (2-1, 1-1). Austin Dean paced Woodmore (1-3, 1-1) with 12.

BLOOMDALE - Dustin Reynolds scored 17 points and Elmwood hit 14 of 19 free throws to Eastwood's 2 of 2. Chris Weiland paced Eastwood with 14.

Andrew Wolff scored 25 points to pace the Green Bears (2-0), who led 22-5 after one quarter. Aaron Crooks had 12 assists.

Brian Macias led the visitors from Fostoria with 18 points.

Blake Powell led Toledo Christian (3-1) with 14 points, six assists and five steals. Jack Sims added 10 points.

Logan Schaffner paced visiting Hilltop (0-3) with 17 points.

ARCHBOLD - Gene Goering poured in 34 points and grabbed eight rebounds to pace Archbold. Josh Wyse added 13 points as the Streaks hit 25 of 29 free throws.

Boomer Roller paced Kalida with 22 points.

HOLGATE - Lee Brubaker scored 10 points as Holgate edged Bryan, which got nine points from Tyler Hollabaugh on three treys.

SHERWOOD - Chris Villalovos led the Indians (3-0) with 24 points. Elliott Mealer added 13 and Ray Martinez had 11.

Levi Kuhn and Ross Joost had 12 each for Fairview (0-1).

LAKESIDE - Matt Zahel scored 16 points and Margaretta outscored Danbury 27-9 at the free throw line. Thomas Clifton paced the Lakers with 15 points.
