Boys basketball roundup: Taylor free throws cap Clay rally

Wes Taylor sank two free throws with 2.4 seconds left to lift Clay to a come-from-behind 59-57 victory over visiting Anthony Wayne last night in boys basketball.

The Eagles outscored the Generals 24-13 in the fourth quarter to take the victory.

Dru Kuns scored 10 of his 13 points in the fourth quarter for Clay (5-4). Taylor finished with a game-high 21.

Josh Dittman tallied 16 points and Brent Papenfuss added 12 for Anthony Wayne, which jumped out to a 24-14 lead after the first quarter and led 33-27 at the half.

The Generals nailed 10 3-pointers. The Eagles hit four.

WAITE 59, FINDLAY 55

Darren White-Owens scored nine of his 13 points in the final three minutes and the Indians held off the visiting Trojans.

Waite outscored Findlay 17-11 in the fourth quarter to pull out the victory.

Khari Riley, who hit two 3-pointers in the final quarter, led Waite (5-4) with 18 points and Mark Wortham added 15.

Mac Cloud tallied 12 points and Zack Kraus and Jesse Wohl had 10 apiece for Findlay (6-3), which had an 11-6 edge at the free throw line.

CELINA 51, ROGERS 43

London Cunningham recorded 15 points but it wasn't enough as the Rams (2-6) dropped a tough contest to visiting Celina.

The Bulldogs outscored Rogers 19-9 in the second quarter and 13-8 in the fourth.

Scott Lutman scored a game-high 19 points for Celina.

CARDINAL STRITCH 54, HOPEWELL-LOUDON 35

Eric McCloskey tallied eight of his 19 points in the fourth quarter as the Cardinals outscored the visiting Chieftains 18-7 to pull away.

Brad Rupp added 10 points and Michael Ameling posted eight points and nine assists for Stritch (8-3).

Cody Risner and Corey Britton paced Hopewell-Loudon (1-5) with 11 and 10 points, respectively.

NORTH BALTIMORE 82, MAUMEE VALLEY 56

NORTH BALTIMORE - Josh Eichar poured in 22 points for the Tigers, who bolted to a 25-8 lead after one quarter.

Chris Sackman paced the Hawks with 18 points and 10 rebounds.

TOLEDO CHRISTIAN 69, EMMANUEL BAPTIST 29

Kyle Bensch scored 15 points and Jacob Weemes added 11 for the Eagles, who jumped to a 19-4 lead after one quarter.

Kris Benefiel led visiting Emmanuel Baptist (1-8, 0-5 TAAC) with seven.

Bensch also had seven rebounds for Toledo Christian (6-2, 4-0), which forced 21 turnovers while committing nine.

OTTAWA HILLS 65, LIBERTY CENTER 51

Ottawa Hills only scored six points in the first quarter but the Green Bears exploded for 31 in the final period in defeating Liberty Center.

Aaron Crooks rang up 18 points, as well as 12 assists and five steals, while Sam Miller added 17 points, Andrew Wolff 12 and Andy Parker 10 for Ottawa Hills (5-2).

Kasey Bodenbender netted 17 points and Brian Babcock 13 for Liberty Center (2-6).

WAUSEON 57, OTSEGO 48

TONTOGANY - Casey Elson threw in eight of his 13 points in the fourth quarter as the Indians outscored the Knights 22-13 to pull away.

Chris Villalovos had 12 points and three others scored nine for Wauseon (8-0), which posted a 15-10 advantage at the free throw line.

Trevor Meyers tallied 12 points and Tyler Getz, Casey Donald and Matt Mills added 10 apiece for Otsego (5-4).

LIBERTY-BENTON 52, ELMWOOD 48

FINDLAY - Nathan Hyde tossed in 21 points and T.J. Recker added 20 as the Eagles rallied to slip past the Royals.

Liberty-Benton (7-2) outscored Elmwood 33-20 in the second half. The Eagles hit seven 3-pointers to Elmwood's one and outscored the visitors 13-5 at the free throw line.

Andrew Marsh led the Royals (6-2) with 19 points, while Dustin Reynolds and Al Tyson chipped in with 13 and 12, respectively.

SWANTON 44, NORTH CENTRAL 37

SWANTON - Beau LaVigne scored 14 points to lead the Bulldogs (3-5), who led 22-17 at the half.

Chris Beals and Craig Kidston tallied eight points apiece for the Eagles (2-6).

Swanton outrebounded North Central 30-20 and outscored it 10-4 at the free throw line.

AYERSVILLE 66, MONTPELIER 44

AYERSVILLE - Jason Nicely tallied 22 points to lead Ayersville (5-3). Joel Erman added 12.

Josh Daft paced Montpelier (2-7) with 18. Brit Barry had 13.

PATRICK HENRY 62, FAIRVIEW 37

HAMLER - Ajay Meyer led the Patriots with 12 points.

Levi Kuhn tallied 14 for the Apaches. Kirk Jesse added 11.

TIFFIN CALVERT 65, COLONEL CRAWFORD 56

TIFFIN - Kwame Christian led Calvert (5-5) with 22 points. Corey DeBarbrie scored 12 and Michael Martorana added 10.

Jeremiah Rader led Colonel Crawford (2-8) with 22.

SENECA EAST 72, DANBURY 38

ATTICA - Jaron Caldwell led Seneca East (7-1) with 18 points. Neil Tusing tallied 15, Greg Phillips 13 and Scott Hansen 12.

Thomas Clifton paced Danbury (1-8) with 15. Mike Hamann added 11.

EDGERTON 34, HOLGATE 32

HOLGATE - Sean Thiel nailed a 16-foot jumper at the buzzer to lift the Bulldogs.

Thiel led Edgerton (6-2, 1-0 GMC) with 13 points and Adam Riehl added 12.

Lee Brubaker had 12 points to pace Holgate (7-2, 0-1), which trailed 17-13 at the half.
