Girls basketball: Big fourth quarter lifts Bulldogs

Scott's Miesha Blackshear and Precious Hands hit 3-point darts in the fourth quarter that punctured Start's bid for an upset as the visiting Bulldogs prevailed 49-43 in City League girls basketball last night.

Blackshear and Hands finished with 16 and 15 points, respectively, for Scott (13-4, 10-1), which outscored the Spartans 19-9 in the final period.

T.T. Arnold scored 15 points and Sierra Olson chipped in with 10 for Start (9-8, 5-6).

ST. URSULA 51, NOTRE DAME 42

Emily Florian meshed 15 points and the Arrows made 15 of 22 free throws (9 of 14 in the fourth quarter) to keep the Eagles at bay before a packed house of about 1,200 at St. Ursula.

St. Ursula is 10-8, 7-4 in CL, while the Eagles are 13-5, 7-4.

Notre Dame cut the lead to three in the third, and kept it close until the fourth, helped by four 3-pointers by Mallory Myers. Kristen Kerscher added 11 and Patrice Lalor chipped in 10. ND made only 5 of 6 free throw tries.

WAITE 65, WHITMER 39

Shareese Ulis poured in 27 points for the visiting Indians, who bolted to a 17-4 lead after one quarter.

Lauren Sneed scored 11 and Tatyana McNeal had 10 for Waite (15-3, 10-1 CL).

Rachel Garverick and Rachelle Allen tallied nine apiece for Whitmer (5-13, 3-8), which outrebounded the Indians 33-27. Ashley Hooker grabbed 10.

CENTRAL 63, CLAY 27

Ellen Herman paced visiting Central (11-7, 9-2 CL) with 24 points while Mallory Strall contributed 10.

Katie Gadus scored nine points to lead the Eagles (4-14, 4-7).

ROGERS 37, LIBBEY 36

Breezy Brewer and Tiffanee Lampkin tallied 10 points apiece, and the Rams (4-13, 2-9 CL) held off the visiting Cowboys.

Kadyia Gregory scored 13 points to pace Libbey (2-16, 1-10), who came alive for 22 points in a fourth-quarter rally.

BOWSHER 71, WOODWARD 18

Stephany Johnson scored 14 points and Tiara Roberts and Lauren Crockett added 11 apiece for the visiting Rebels (11-7, 8-3 CL).

Tionna Parker tallied 12 for the Polar Bears.

OTTAWA HILLS 60,

LAKE 45

MILLBURY - Kelsey Netter (16 points) and Megan Jamieson (14) propelled Ottawa Hills past Lake. The Green Bears took control with a 15-6 advantage in both the second and third quarters.

Joylette Daniels topped Lake with 19 points, while Sara Recny scored 12.
