Roundup: Port Clinton falls to Margaretta

CASTALIA - Matt Zahel scored 12 points in the fourth quarter as Margaretta outscored Port Clinton 23-10 to pull away for a 71-60 Sandusky Bay Conference boys basketball victory last night.

Zahel finished with a game-high 28 points. Jarod Krumer added 19 and Josh Quillen had 10 for the Polar Bears (7-11, 4-9), who sank 25 of 37 free throws.

Justin Francis (15 points), Jason Cellier (13) and Justin Horne (12) led Port Clinton (12-6, 7-5), which made just six of 12 tries at the line.

t● Rob Luderman scored 12 points, Ayersville hit five of six free throws in the fourth quarter and outscored visiting Holgate 13-4 in a 33-28 victory. Lee Brubaker, who pushed his career total to 1,005 points, scored 12 for the Tigers, who were outscored 8-3 at the free throw line.

t●Justin Kurtz scored 10 points for Edgerton, which sank 8 of 12 free throws in the fourth quarter to pull out a 31-29 win over Antwerp. The Archers led 18-17 after three quarters.

t●Layne Schroeder contributed 15 points and 12 rebounds for Tinora, which sank 14 of 15 free throws in the last 3 1/2 minutes and made 26 of 32 for the game in a 58-39 victory over Fairview. Kirk Jesse scored 14 for the Apaches.

t●Brandon Cover tallied 15 points and John McCain had 14 in Hicksville's 64-57 victory over GMC champ Wayne Trace, the Aces' first ever in Haviland.

t●Craig Kidston, Jake Frame and Tom Richmond scored 14, 13 and 12 points, respectively, to lead North Central to a 58-49 victory over Edon.

t●Heath Armstrong tossed in 24 points and Fayette outscored Hilltop 27-5 at the free throw line in a 62-45 victory.

t●Jacob Bernath tallied 20 points and Terrence Clingaman added 16 as Stryker downed Pettisville 57-52, offsetting Alex Nafziger's 26 for the Blackbirds.

t●Brian Dorsten scored 12 points and Celina outrebounded Defiance 32-16 in a 54-41 victory. Bryan Lehman and Nate Ripke tallied 10 points apiece for the Bulldogs.
