SLL Boys: Hornyak scores 23 in Genoa win

GENOA - Cory Hornyak scored 23 points to lead Genoa to a 71-67 Suburban Lakes League boys basketball victory over Eastwood last night.

Anthony Robertson added 15 points and Adam Schumacher 14 for the Comets (14-5, 9-4).

Trent Rahe paced the Eagles (5-12, 4-8) with 22 points, including five 3-pointers.

Chad Fairbanks added 17 points and Corey Weiland had 12 for Eastwood.

Genoa hit 28 of 56 shots from the field, including 5 of 12 3-pointers. Eastwood hit 25 of 46, including 6 of 11 from beyond the arc. The Comets hit 10 of 17 free throws while the Eagles canned 11 of 15.

Robertson had nine rebounds as the Comets won on the boards 34-30.

Gibsonburg 69,

Lakota 47

GIBSONBURG - Balanced Gibsonburg clinched at least a share of the SLL title.

The Golden Bears, with four players scoring in double figures, rampaged to a 39-20 halftime lead and cruised.

Brent Ernsthausen had 16 points and nine rebounds to pace the Bears. Nathan Kirwen and Derek Wasserman contributed 12 points apiece and Matt Kreglow chipped in with 10.

Trevor Hohman led the Raiders (0-16, 0-13) with 18 points.

Gibsonburg (16-2, 12-1) closes its season next Friday at second-

place Elmwood.

Elmwood 74, Lake 60

BLOOMDALE - Dustin Reynolds scored 18 points and ripped down 10 rebounds to lead Elmwood.

Brian Barndt (15) and Al Tyson (12) also posted double digits for the Royals (13-5, 11-2).

Matt Rollins scored 18, Bryan Conley 16 and Cody McPherson 13 for Lake (7-12, 5-7).

Elmwood outrebound Lake 27-18 and outscored the Flyers 27-14 in the second quarter.

Otsego 63,

Woodmore 50

ELMORE - Shooting on 2-pointers was fairly even (Otsego 15 of 34 and Woodmore 14 of 30), but The Knights hit 8 of 13 3-pointers to the Wildcats' 5 of 8.

Casey Donald led Otsego (8-10, 6-7) with 21 points and Chris Falls added 10.

Kurt Ferrell led Woodmore (6-13, 4-9) with 16 points and Matt McGee had 11.

The Knights also hit 8 of 12 free throws to the Wildcats' 7 of 14.
