St. John's defeats Start 41-21

Sean Patterson accounted for three touchdowns and Dajon Booth added 138 yards on 14 carries as St. John's Jesuit defeated Start 41-21 yesterday in City League football.

Brad Leestma paced Start by hitting 16 of 22 passes for 296 yards and two touchdowns, and Julian Nash gained 102 yards on 21 carries with one score.

Sean Patterson got the Titans on the board first with a 10-yard run, but Leestma tied the game at 7 by hitting Sherrod Thompson for a 15-yard score.

St. John's went up again on Nick Cherry's two-yard TD run, but Nash knotted the score at 14 with a five-yard run for Start.

Patterson gave St. John's a 21-14 halftime lead by connecting with Jalil Carter for a 30-yard score.

Val Helldobbler hauled in a 49-yard scoring pass from Patterson in the third quarter for a 28-14 margin.

Start drew within 28-21 in the fourth quarter when Leestma hit L.J. Jones for 25 yards.

The Titans put the game away with two fourth-quarter touchdowns, Cherry scoring from six yards out and Ian Gaston returning an interception 26 yards for the final tally.

After trailing 13-8 at the half, visiting Rogers turned two interceptions into points early in the third quarter to take control.

The Polar Bears' lead came on a 28-yard run by Makonnen Rice and a 15-yard pass from Sam Wallace to Rasean Gordon just before halftime.

Isaiah Ballard, who led the Rams with 65 yards on six carries, scored on a four-yard run in the first half.

In the third quarter, an interception set up a one-yard TD run by Ronney Hester, then Anthony Ben returned an interception 45 yards for another score.
