NLL: Fouty free throws win for Northview

Olivia Fouty sank two free throws for the winning points with 0.1 seconds left as undefeated Northview shaded winless Southview 48-46 in a Northern Lakes League girls basketball game last night at Northview.

Southview (0-2) had led 46-43 until Ashley Morris hit a 3-pointer with 5.8 seconds left.

The Wildcat defense forced a five-second violation and Northview (3-0) then missed two free throws.

The Cougars knocked the ball out of bounds with 1.7 seconds left, giving Northview yet another shot at the victory.

Fouty missed a shot, but was fouled, setting the stage for the big finish in the frantic final seconds.

Fouty and Southview's Kelsey Navarre shared scoring honors with 14 points each in a game that was back-and-forth all the way.

Maumee 47,

Bowling Green 44

BOWLING GREEN - Lindsey Diegel scored eight of her game-high 14 points in the third quarter to pace the Panthers to the win.

Maumee outscored the home team 19-13 in the third period in the Northern Lakes League opener for both schools. The Panthers improved to 2-0, while BG fell to 0-3.

Whitney Lane scored 10 points to lead the Bobcats, who finished with 30 turnovers in the loss.

Springfield 60, Rossford 17

Springfield scored as many points in the first quarter as Rossford did the entire game in a drubbing that saw the visitors make just five field goals.

Hillary Fountain and Kate Helminiak each scored 13 points for the Blue Devils, who forced 31 turnovers.

Springfield improves to 2-1 overall and 1-0 in the league.
