St. John's Joe Jakubowski, a recent graduate of St. John's, signed a letter of
intent to play basketball at Bowling Green State University
under first-year coach Louis Orr.
Jakubowski had originally signed with Rice, but when Owls coach Willis
Wilson began linking himself to other job openings, Jakubowski asked for
and was granted a release.
"It sounded like the program was a little unstable, so that kind of got
things going," said Ed Heintschel, St. John's coach. "BG, with
a new situation, and [Joe] has a brother at BG, so it was kind of a
natural move for him."
Jakubowski will be eligible for the upcoming season and will play point
guard, an area of need for the Falcons.
Jakubowski is the Falcons' second signing since Orr took over the
program in early April. The other is Cameron Madlock, a 6-foot-8 forward
from Wisconsin.
