Big plays help Rossford win

Rossford took advantage of some big plays and went on to defeat Delta 28-14 yesterday in a game that was postponed by storms Friday night.

Rossford running back Brandon Huner opened the scoring in the first quarter with an 80-yard touchdown run. Huner finished with 107 yards on 16 carries.

Matt Deemer and Dustin Sattler recorded touchdown catches in the first half for the Bulldogs as quarterback Kyle Schwind went 5-of-10 for 190 yards and the two scores.

"We tend to be a big-play oriented offense," Rossford coach Chris Werbylo said.

Schwind also added a one-yard touchdown run and kicked all four of Rossford's extra points.

Tyler Waclowski recorded 10 tackles to lead the Rossford defense, which was the difference in the game, according to Werbylo. It forced seven turnovers, including five in the first half.

"They played an outstanding game," he said.

Delta scored both of its touchdowns in the second half. The first was a 64-yard run by Zach Shindorf. Aaron Betz added a five-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.

Betz finished the game with 104 yards rushing on 22 carries and added 104 yards passing.

Bedford 28,

Springfield 20

The Blue Devils jumped out to a six-point lead, but the Mules kicked back with 21 unanswered points and held on.

Bedford junior quarterback Nate Davis was 17-of-27 for 297 yards and threw for two touchdowns. Davis also rushed for 70 yards and scored on a three-yard run.

Junior wideout Joe Martin caught three passes for 111 yards. Sophomore Zack Messer scored on a 52-yard pass play and on a nine-yard run.

Springfield junior QB Eric Page rushed for 152 yards on 18 carries and scored one touchdown. Page was 13-of-31 for 219 yards through the air. He connected on scoring strikes of 45 yards with Tyler Grogg and 40 yards with Matt Rogers.

In a game that was moved from Springfield to Bedford after it was suspended Friday night, the Mules finished with 115 rushing yards. The Blue Devils rushed for 158.

Bowling Green 35, Otsego 23

TONTOGANY - Bowling Green QB Aaron Mershman threw three touchdown passes and Rudy Hendon scored twice on the ground.

Mershman finished 12-of-20 for 219 yards and rushed for 55 yards. Hendon had 76 yards on 14 carries. Adam Crawford caught six passes for 119 yards and one score.

BG, which fell behind 3-0 before posting 28 unanswered points, amassed 378 yards (159 rushing and 219 passing).

Otsego QB Kenny Rodgers rushed for 88 yards and finished 17-of-31 for 160 yards. Senior back J.T. Schmitt scored on runs of 8 and 3 yards and finished with 59 yards. R.J. Hefflinger had six carries for 58 yards.

Otsego finished with 309 total yards (149 rushing and 160 passing).
