Basketball roundup: Big third quarter carries Swanton

Swanton defeated visiting Rossford 38-17 last night in a girls basketball game that featured an unusual scoring pattern.

Swanton led 5-4 after one quarter, and 11-9 at the half.

Then Swanton outscored Rossford 20-0 in the third quarter.

Normalcy returned as Rossford won the final stanza 8-7.

Ashlee Polkinghorn led Swanton with 12 points and Paige Onweller had 10.

Ann Yenrick paced Rossford with eight.

Visiting Southview outscored Bowsher 24-10 in the fourth quarter, taking the lead near the end on a 3-pointer by Jenna Vermilya.

Brooke Gates led Southview with 22 points, Vermilya had 14, including four 3-pointers, and Tiffany Scott added 12.

Tiara Roberts paced Bowsher with 20, Amanda Gregory added 13 and Sheaunte Carswell had 10.

Amanda Watson scored 18 points as the Eagles romped at home.

Lindsay Diegel paced Maumee with nine points.

WEST UNITY - Jacque Smith paced Hilltop with 10 points.

Emily Loomis scored 12 for Emmanuel Christian.

Sarah Clark scored 34 points and grabbed 18 rebounds, and Sarah Perkins had 17 points as Monclova Christian easily topped the visitors from Cleveland.

Boys

The visitors from Cleveland placed four in double figures to counteract Jordan McCloud scoring 14 and Teddy N'Duba 13 for Monclova Christian.

MONROE, Mich. - Anthony Manno scored 27 points as Dearborn Divine Child won in overtime.

Kurt Lehmann led St. Mary Catholic Central with 24 points and 10 rebounds.
