City League: Rebels get first victory

Four Rebels scored in double figures to lead Bowsher to its first City League win last night in a topsy-turvy contest, 59-53 over Woodward.

Justin Warnes led Bowsher (4-14, 1-11) with 15 points. Nate Pompili and Thomas Mays each had 13 points, and T.J. Anderson tallied 11.

Bowsher jumped in front with a 37-23 halftime lead, outscoring the Polar Bears 25-15 in the second quarter. But Woodward rallied to score 25 points in the third quarter to tie the game at 48 after three quarters.

Neither team scored for the first five-and-a-half minutes of the final stanza, then the Rebels put the game away.

Brandon Underwood scored 23 points for Woodward (2-15, 0-11). Robert Oliver had 14.

Central Catholic 72,

Clay 43

The visiting Irish started the fourth quarter on a 13-0 run and went on to outscore the Eagles 33-9 in the period.

Matt Collins and Curtis Jewell contributed 12 points apiece for Central Catholic (11-7, 7-4) and Nate Hobbs added 10.

Drew Kuns had 13 points and Zac Taylor 10 for Clay (6-11, 4-7).

Scott 88, Start 79

The Bulldogs fell behind 21-10 after the first quarter but roared back, scoring at least 25 points in every remaining quarter, and won the game in the fourth quarter at the free throw line.

Scott hit 17-of-22 at the line in the final stanza to finish 22-of-35 for the contest. Start was 16-of-25 from the free throw line in the game.

David Sweeney led the charge for the Bulldogs (7-10, 5-6) with 21 points. Not far behind was Antwan Jones with 20 points, followed by David McDonald with 18 and Hakeem Greer with 16.

Dwain Golladay scored 19 points for Start (9-9, 4-7). Cameron Hill and Devin Russell chipped in with 17 points apiece, while Ottarreus Waller had 15.
