Future Falcon Kinzer paces state champs

HILLIARD, Ohio - Sparked by performances in the final two events by senior Andrea Kinzer, Brecksville-Broadview Heights won its eighth state team gymnastics championship yesterday at Hilliard Darby High School.

Perrysburg finished 10th with 132.650 points, while Napoleon rounded out the 12 teams in the event with 129.575 points.

The Lady Bees, who scored 147.400 points to edge rival Rocky River Magnificat by 0.35 of a point, became the second school in the 36-year history of the event to win five consecutive state titles. Worthington was the first - 1985-1989.

The Yellow Jackets scored 32.950 as a team in the vault, 32.600 on the bars, 32.700 on the beam, and 34.400 in the floor program.

Napoleon scored 33.375 in the vault, 32.000 on the bars, 31.925 on the beam, and 32.275 in the floor program.

Taylor Kaufman led Perrysburg with an 8.050 in the vault, 8.275 on the bars, 8.300 on the beam, and 8.625 in the floor program.

Napoleon's Kendall Homan scored team-high marks in all four categories, with 9.025 in the vault, 8.925 on the bars, 8.275 on the beam, and 8.850 in the floor program.

Kinzer, who will attend Bowling Green State University on a gymnastics scholarship, helped the Lady Bees rally from a slight deficit in the final two events, the floor exercise and the vault. She scored a 9.60 on the floor and a 9.725 on the vault, the highest score of the day.

The individual competition will be held at noon today.
