Delta boys, Wauseon girls earn championships
5/17/2008MONTPELIER - The Delta boys and the Wauseon girls each claimed their third consecutive Northwest Ohio Athletic League track title last night.
On the boys side, the Panthers won six individual events to finish with 151 points, 32 better than second-place Archbold. Bryan took third place with 96 points.
Korbin Smith led the way for Delta by winning the 100, 200 and 400, while Tim Sintobin took first in the 300 hurdles, J.D. Wilcox won the 1600 and Nick Thomas won the 3200.
The Blue Streaks won all three of last night's relays and also got a first from Michael Volkman in the 800.
The other individual champ crowned last night was Jordan Weber, who won the 110 hurdles with a time of 14.99.
On the girls side, Wauseon and Archbold had the same number of first-place finishes, but the Indians' 27-point advantage after Tuesday's field events proved to be the difference. Wauseon had 149.5 points, while Archbold was second with 128.5 and Patrick Henry third with 85.5.
Holly Baird was a double-winner for the Indians, taking first in both the 1600 and 3200.
Baird's teammate Jessica Jones won the 400 for the fourth straight year, and Wauseon's 800 and 1600 relays also finished first.
Archbold was led by Autumn Lantz, who won both the 100 and 200. Haley Nemcik claimed the 100 hurdles and Katrina Gobrogge took first in the 800, while the Blue Streaks' 400 relay also was a winner.
The only individual winner to escape those two teams was in the 300 hurdles, where Swanton's Kirsten Smith broke the meet
record with a 45.88 clocking.
