Defiance improves to 4-1
9/20/2008VAN WERT - Travis Spitnale rushed for 164 yards and a 52-yard touchdown as Defiance (4-1, 3-1 Western Buckeye League) whipped Van Wert 35-18 last night.
Alex Nofziger added two touchdowns on a 85-yard kickoff return and a 20-yard run.
Van Wert's Tim Hoverman rushed for three touchdowns, and Connor Massillo accounted for 104 yards on the ground.
BELLEVUE - Quarterback Curtis Watson completed 23 of 33 passes for 425 yards and three touchdown passes to lead Bellevue (4-1, 1-1 NOL).
Watson also rushed for two TDs. Bellevue coach Ed Nasonti tied Lowell Schaffer for the most wins (144) in school history.
CAREY - Trevor Phoenix rushed for 80 yards and TDs of 40 and 45 yards for Carey (5-0, 2-0). Derek Stock accounted for 82 yards and scored on a three-yard run.
Fostoria St. Wendelin (3-2, 0-2) was led by Dan Faber's 44 yards on 12 rushing attempts.
SHERWOOD - James Elchinger completed 12 of 17 passes for 269 yards and five touchdowns for Fairview (4-1, 2-0 GMC). Ben Wonderly caught TD passes of 25 and 79 and also returned a punt 88 yards for a score. Rodney Webb caught TD passes of 9 and 82 yards.
Caleb Sehlmeyer rushed for 114 yards for Holgate (0-5, 0-2).
ARCADIA - Aaron Craft completed 10 of 12 pass attempts for 201 yards for Liberty Benton (5-0, 4-0 BVC). Craft's four touchdown passes were hauled in by Justin Hyde (29 yards), Cody Schoonover (16 yards), Ryan Cook (10 yards) and Brennan Lieb (43 yards).
Lieb also scored on a 34-yard interception return. Brandon Pickett accounted for three touchdowns - two rushing, one on a kickoff - and finished with 71 yards rushing.
Zach Bame recovered two fumbles for Arcadia (0-5, 0-3) including one for a 75-yard touchdown.
FINDLAY - Findlay (1-4) was held scoreless until Wade Arredondo's 45-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.
HAVILAND - Hicksville's Logan Battershell rushed for 325 yards on 24 carries and scored five touchdowns. He scored on runs of 92, 20, 11, 44 and 53 yards for the Aces (5-0, 2-0 GMC).
Wayne Trace (2-3, 1-1) scored on runs from Derrick Baksa (1 yards) and Tevin Hale (2).
MONROE - Ben Notario scored three touchdowns in rushing for 96 yards for Monroe (2-2, 1-1).
The Trojans also got a 95-yard kickoff return for a TD by Trevon Hamilton. Monroe led in total yardage, 374-180.
ONSTED 14, IDA 6
IDA - Shane Wallace hauled in a 29-yard TD pass from Carl Ream and Nate Sanborn added a nine-yard TD runfor Onsted.
Onsted's Jacob Cranston was 6 of 12 passing for 114 yards.
Ida scored in the fourth quarter on a three-yard run by Dan Greenwood.
