Panthers slip by Knights 14-7; Whitmer moves to 2-0 in league

Whitmer remained undefeated in the City League, topping St. Francis 14-7 at the University of Toledo s Glass Bowl.

Whitmer scored the first points of the game on a safety when St. Francis punter Pat Dyer was tackled in his own end zone.

Jordan Brown then scored on a 45-yard touchdown pass from Joe Missler to extend Whitmer s lead.

Julian Nash scored on a 16-yard run for the final Panther (2-3, 2-0) points. Nash finished with 83 yards on 17 carries.

Quarterback D.J. McPartland led St. Francis (2-3, 1-1) with 219 yards on 16-of-23 passing. McPartland threw the only Knight touchdown to Greg Fockler, a two-yard score.

Aaron Newman and Devon Price hooked up for a pair of touchdown passes as Start cruised to a home win.

Newman was 12-of-20 passing for 187 yards. His two touchdown passes were 33 and 31 yards to Price, who caught four passes for 91 yards.

Troy Bell had 186 yards rushing on 16 attempts for Start (1-4, 1-1). Bell scored on a 66-yard scamper in the fourth quarter to make the score 23-10.

The Spartans held Bowsher (1-4, 1-1) to just 15 passing yards. The Rebels Sheron Brown had 63 yards on seven carries and scored on a 51-yard run in the first quarter.

Armon Richardson had a big game to lead Scott past Woodward at home.

Richardson rushed 24 times for 279 yards and four touchdowns (34, 48, 35, 14). Lamon McKintric also tossed three touchdown passes for the Bulldogs. The first two to Phillip Bobo (19, 26). The third was to Kenneth Campbell for 48 yards.

Charles White scored the Polar Bear touchdown on a one-yard run.

St. John s Jesuit (1-1, 2-3) rolled up 310 yards total offense and trampled Rogers (0-2, 1-4) as Titans running back Hunter Lent ran for three TDs, including a score on a 72-yard punt return.

St. John s Cheatham Norrils threw for 141 yards, including a 40-yard TD pass to Zach Crosser in the third quarter. Norrils was 6-of-11 passing and had 14 carries for 65 yards.

The Rams scored on a 32-yard pass play from quarterback E.J. Tucker to Gary Johnson in the first quarter. Tucker was 15-of-27 through the air for 142 yards; he had two passes intercepted.

St. John s running back P.J. Wimberly carried 19 times for 94 yards, including a four-yard touchdown run.
