OHSAA considers splitting D-I in football

10/9/2008

COLUMBUS A subcommittee has recommended to the Ohio High School

Athletic Association that a seventh division be added in football, addressing the

large disparity in enrollments among the biggest schools in the state.

The proposal would divide Division I in half, with the top four teams from each

region qualifying for the postseason playoffs, the association said. But officials said

it was merely a proposal and no timetable has been set for action on it.

High school enrollments in Division I vary in size between 528 boys and 1,246

boys. The proposal would place schools with similar enrollments in the same division.

Divisions II through VI would remain relatively unchanged.
