St. John's tops Shaker Heights

12/6/2008

Coach Ed Heintschel said his guard, Jay Springs, did a good job on defense.

The man he was guarding must have been pretty good - he still scored 33 points.

Plus Springs was almost perfect at the free throw line, hitting 13 of 14, as he helped St. John's Jesuit defeat visiting Shaker Heights 78-71 in overtime last night at St. John's.

Shaker Heights guard Anthony Wells, who is headed for Cleveland State, scored 33 points despite Springs' efforts.

But the Titans forced an extra session, thanks in part to Springs going 8-of-8 from the line in the fourth quarter, and they prevailed with a strong inside game as Tim Simmons finished with 22 points.

Springs, 2-for-2 from the line in OT, finished with 19 points.

The Titans hit 35 of 50 free throws for the game to Shaker Heights' 17 of 23.
