Bowsher defeats Scott for first win

Bowsher defeated visiting Scott 71-65 Friday night in City League boys basketball - the Rebels' first victory of the season.

Jerome Davis led Bowsher (1-3, 1-1) with 21 points. Robert Davis and T.J. Anderson each added 15.

Vernon Freeman paced the Bulldogs with 24 points. Kendrick King added 20.

Scott finished 7-of-14 from the free throw line and just 2-of-12 from beyond the 3-point line.

Bowsher was 19-of-30 from the line.

Clay's Drew Kuns poured in 33 points, but they were not enough to beat Start which went on a scoring binge at the end.

Start led 66-65 with about 2:00 to go. The Eagles had the ball, but were guilty of a turnover.

The Spartans then scored 10 consecutive points, fueled by six from Marcus Gaines. Gaines finished with 14. Anthony Henderson's 20 led Start and Devin Russell added 18.

Clay's Aaron Duncan and Matt Swaim added 12 each.

At Central, the Irish broke out to a 17-7 first-quarter edge and led by 16 at the half to go to 2-1 overall and 1-1 in the City League.

Blair Hueston led Central with 12 points. Drew Lehman and Nate Hobbs each contributed 10.

Ken Hayes scored 11 to pace the Panthers (0-3, 0-2).

At Libbey, Maurice Taylor was a one-man wrecking crew, pouring in 25 points as the Cowboys moved to 2-1 overall and 2-0 in the City League. No other player reached double figures for the Cowboys.

Shejuan Wells paced the Polar Bears with 18 points. Robert Oliver added 14.
