Beans scores 26 for Ottawa Hills

Ottawa Hills had three players in double figures in a 70-48 victory over Cardinal Stritch last night in Toledo Area Athletic Conference boys basketball.

Phillip Beans led the Green Bears (8-2, 5-1) with 26 points, Eliot Browarsky added 15 and J.J. Buckey contributed 10.

Will Kamelesky paced the visiting Cardinals with 15 points and Justin Staler added 12.

CLYDE 67, OAK HARBOR 35

OAK HARBOR - Alex Gillett scored 16 points and Kyle Smetzler added 12 for the Fliers.

Kevin Young paced the Rockets with 11 points.

MONCLOVA 66, HARVEST 42

Jordan McCloud and Andrew Dibert scored 16 points apiece for Monclova Christian. Chris Sims had 18 for Harvest Temple.

CLAY 83, WOODWARD 28

The Eagles blasted out to a 28-5 lead after one quarter and cruised to the win.

Jessica Achter scored 16 points to lead Clay (9-5, 5-3 City), while Meghan Scharer and Nicole Steinmetz added 13 and 12, respectively.

Shanita Lane finished with 11 points for the Polar Bears (0-8, 0-13).

ARCHBOLD 45,

PATRICK HENRY 36

HAMLER - Abbey Graber scored 15 points and Andrea Allan added 14 for Archbold (13-3, 6-0 NWOAL).

Tiffany Ehlers led Patrick Henry (5-9, 2-3) with eight points.

SWANTON 46, DELTA 42

DELTA - Ashlee Polkinghorn paced the Bulldogs with 12 points.

Kathleen Przeslawski led all scorers with 17 for the Panthers.

Amanda Taylor pulled down nine rebounds for Swanton. Alexa Salsbury had nine points and 11 rebounds for Delta.

LIBERTY CENTER 40,

EVERGREEN 35

LIBERTY CENTER - Chelsea Meister scored 17 points, Arika Hoffman added nine and Liberty Center outscored Evergreen 14-5 in the fourth quarter.

Lauren Langenderfer led Evergreen with 10 and Taylor Langenderfer added nine.

MARION HARDING 36,

FINDLAY 23

MARION -Shawnta Dyer scored 13 points and Brenae Harris added 10 for Harding (11-3, 6-0 GBC).

Ashley Miller paced Findlay (7-7, 4-3) with seven points.

PETTISVILLE 40, EDON 39

EDON - Edon outscored Pettisville 12-7 in the final period but the rally fell short.

Erica King led Pettisville with 15 points and Alexa Short added 11. Megin Wiler scored 11 for Edon.

After 66 consecutive losses, Jackson-Milton staged a celebration three years in the making.

"There was a big crowd there and everybody ran out [on the court] and went crazy," coach Adam Underhill said.

"Nobody wanted to leave the gym."

Senior Ben Carlile, there for most of the defeats, had a career-high 34 points and Jackson-Milton made 18-of-24 free throws in the final quarter to earn an 82-75 victory over visiting Southern last Friday.

It was the Bluejays' first win since beating Bloomfield 55-28 on Jan. 3, 2006.

Over those three years, it was hard to be a basketball player at Jackson-Milton, where walking down the hall brought a steady stream of ridicule. Kids would write the latest streak number on blackboards so that would be the first thing players saw when they arrived for practice.

"They beat down on the players, but we kept building them up," Underhill said. "We said, 'Hey, they don't know what they're talking about. They don't see what you're doing here. They don't see your hard work.'"

Now the Bluejays have some talent in the pipeline, and an almost inconceivable target on the horizon: They want to make it to the state tournament in two years.

"Hey, it's a huge goal," Underhill said. "But if you don't shoot high, you'll never reach it."
