Sports Letters: Garber's comment a slap at TPS coaches

2/22/2009

Sports Editor:

The Blade's "Bowsher's Garber will rejoin Central football staff" was a slap in the face to all Toledo Public Schools coaches.

He said "It's [TPS] not a system set up for athletic success."

I'm glade Coach Coe at Bowsher didn't follow the Garber plan. His track team has won the last four City titles. Also, I'm glad Coach Arbinger at Start didn't follow Garber's path. His baseball teams have won numerous City and district titles. These coaches have been successful at the state level.

Why could these coaches achieve in an environment such as Garber describes?

Garber doesn't take any accountability for his coaching, but blames the system, the same system that employs him as a teacher. Maybe it was time for him to step down.
