Jack Mewhort, a St. John s Jesuit graduate and incoming freshman at Ohio State, is one of 36 players selected from around the country to play for USA Football s 2009 Junior National Team in the Junior World Championship tournament in Canton this summer.

Teams from Canada, France, Germany, Japan, Mexico, New Zealand and Sweden will also take part in the event, for players age 19 and under.

Mewhort, a 6-6, 285-pound offensive lineman, will be joined on the USA team by fellow Ohio State early enrollee Storm Klein, a 6-2, 225-pound linebacker from Licking Valley.

It s great that a couple of Ohio guys and Buckeyes will be able to represent their country in such a competition, Ohio State coach Jim Tressel said. I know it will be an unforgettable experience for them.

University of Toledo recruit Robert Bell, a 6-0, 222 pound linebacker from Grand Rapids, Mich., will represent the Rockets in the event, while defensive end Jordan Roussos (6-4, 240 ) of Carnegie, Pa., a Bowling Green recruit, will also take part.

The 12-game Junior World Championship tournament will be played June 25-July 5 at Canton s Fawcett Stadium.
