MONROE Bedford, which was ranked No. 2 in the final Michigan Division 1 baseball poll, pushed its season record to 35-2 Saturday with two victories at the district level.
The Mules hammered Adrian 13-1 in the semifi nals, riding the 15-strikeout, twohit pitching of senior Mitch Hooven (12-0), who worked the first six innings. Hooven and Shayne Shroyer each went 2-for-3 with a double.
In the final, the Mules topped host Monroe 13-4.
Bedford trailed 4-3 before tying the game in the third inning and going ahead ahead when Jared Kujawa tripled and scored on a Trojan error.
The Mules five-run fifth was highlighted by Nate Davis eighth home run of the season, a three-run shot. Shroyer worked the first four innings to earn the win, and reliever Dan Przeniczny fi nished with three scoreless innings.
Bedford advances to Saturday s regionals.
