ND's McNamara wins D-I singles

PORT CLINTON -

Megan McNamara of Notre Dame won the singles title at the Division I district tennis yesterday, while sisters Morgan and Sydney Delp from Central Catholic won the doubles crown.

Three players from Ottawa Hills - singles player Drew Fillis and sisters Arohi and Shivani Batt in doubles - advanced in Division II.

McNamara claimed the crown with a 4-6, 6-2, 6-4 win over April Weaver of Perrysburg. Meanwhile the Delp sister earned the title with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Southview's Genna Haider and Anjali Naik.

The top two singles and doubles teams in D-I advance to the state tournament in Columbus.

In D-II, Fillis advanced to the final with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Ashley LaFountain of Oak Harbor. But the sophomore, who won the singles title last year, lost in in the championship match to Courtney Earnest of Lexington, 6-1, 6-1.

LaFountain, a freshman, won the consolation final 2-6, 6-2, 6-1 over Bryan's Meredith McDonagh.

In doubles, the Batt sisters beat Jordyn Parrigan and Nikki Harmon of Shelby 6-3, 7-5. In the final, the Green Bear duo knocked off Chelsea Beck and Aubrey Gillman of Port Clinton 2-6, 6-3, 6-4.

Mackenzie Eickhoff and Alanya Schlade of Napoleon finished third by besting Parrigan and Harmon, 6-1, 7-6 (5).

The top three singles and doubles teams in D-II advance to state.
