Burkhardt boots 3 FGs
10/24/2009Central Catholic placekicker Kyle Burkhardt kicked three field goals last night in a 27-0 City League victory over Libbey.
The Irish scored all of their points in the first half. Burkhardt connected on field goals of 35, 20, and 52 yards.
Jar'Vell Jones scored on touchdown runs of 1 and 14 yards, while Divelle Costen returned a Libbey pass for 36 yards and a touchdown.
Central (7-2, 5-1 CL) substituted freely in the second half.
The Cowboys fell to 1-7, 1-5.
E.J. Tucker gained 151 yards in 29 carries for host Rogers and scored three touchdowns, while completing 7 for 15 passes for 80 yards and a TD.
Rogers opened its scoring with an impressive 90-yard drive. Tucker climaxed the drive with a one-yard touchdown. He followed that up with another one-yard TD plunge in the second quarter.
Ray Bush grabbed a six-yard TD pass from Tucker just before halftime.
The Rams (8-1, 5-1) started the second half by recovering Clay's fumble of the kickoff at the Eagles' 20 and driving down for a five-yard TD run by Tucker.
Darrell James climaxed the scoring with a one-yard run.
Rogers had 286 yards on the ground and 80 passing.
Clay (4-5, 2-4,) was held to 45 yards on the ground and 10 yards passing.
Whitmer 64, Bowsher 13
Joe Missler completed 9 of 12 passes for 151 yards, including a 50-yard touchdown pass to Teryl Mershon to lead the Panthers (8-1, 5-1) to a blowout victory over the Rebels (3-6, 3-3 CL).
Mershon also scored on an 8-yard run in the first half to help the Panthers take a 43-0 lead into halftime. The Panthers dictated the contest by rushing for 294 yards on 47 carries.
Micah Merritt opened the scoring for Whitmer by plunging into the end zone on a 3-yard touchdown run to give the Panthers a 7-0 lead in the first quarter. He also produced a 29-yard touchdown run.
Nigel Hayes recovered a blocked punt by Chris Wormly for Whitmer's second touchdown. Missler connected with Mike Pfaff for an 18-yard touchdown pass.
Bowsher's Leonard Brown scored on a 10-yard run in the third quarter and Alonzo Lucas pulled in a 30-yard pass from Justin Gaston in the fourth quarter to account for the Rebels' scoring.
St. Francis 63, Scott 0
St. Francis (8-1, 5-1) accumulated 296 yards rushing for the win over Scott at Bowsher.
Jake Wawrzyniak rushed for 93 yards and a pair of touchdowns (20 and 21 yard runs). Tyler Johnston threw for 96 yards including touchdown passes of 25 yards to Nate White and 61 to Scott Loy.
Lee Lukasik had a pair of scoring runs, dashing in from 5 and 12 yards out. St. Francis continued its punishing ground game in the second half with Jarrod Jefferson (20-yard run), Dante Gessner (15 yards) and Andy Meinart (25 yards) all reaching the end zone.
Scott (2-7, 2-4) rushed for 105 yards in the contest.
St. John's 40, Waite 0
Kent Kern took the opening handoff and galloped 68 yards for a touchdown, and the Titans never looked back, piling up 288 rushing yards on a muddy field at Waite.
Kern led the St. John's ground game, carrying the ball eight times for 119 yards. He added a five-yard score in the second quarter.
Nate White also had two touchdown runs for the Titans (6-3, 4-2). He finished with 114 yards on six carries.
Kevin Carter had three catches for 50 yards for the Indians (2-7, 2-4).
Start 76, Woodward 0
Start rushed for eight touchdowns while also returning an interception, fumble and punt for scores.
Deonte Rozier led Start (2-7, 2-4) with 38 yards rushing and two scores, reaching the end zone from five and six yards out.
Matt Watson had a three-yard touchdown, Jake Cothran had a three-yard score, Johnny Hobbs had a 31-yard run, Silas McCall had an eight-yard score, and Mark Brown had two touchdown runs (16 and 26 yards).
On defense, Hank Oswald had a 39-yard interception return for a score, and Scott Aborn recovered a fumble and ran 38-yards for a touchdown. Devon Price returned a punt 67 yards to the end zone.
