Unbeaten Genoa clinches share of third straight championship

TONTOGANY — Genoa stayed perfect and clinched at least a share of its third straight Suburban Lakes League title with a 51-0 rout of Otsego.

Genoa had 351 yards of total offense, while holding Otsego to 86 as the Comets won their 28th straight regular-season game.

Greg Hillabrand carried the ball six times for 142 yards and two touchdowns, scoring on runs of 59 and 29 yards for Genoa (9-0, 5-0 SLL).

Quarterback Matt Bassitt completed 10 of 12 passes for 103 yards and three touchdowns, connecting on two scoring strikes to Derek Allgier (40 and 8 yards) and a four-yard pass to Garrett Scott.

Tyler Pickard had a four touchdown run and also added a 30-yard field goal. Connor Wendt had a 20-yard touchdown run.

Sam Forshey gained 85 yards on 17 carries for Otsego (0-9, 0-5).

Lake 14, Elmwood 7

BLOOMDALE — Special teams played a pivotal role in Lake's victory.

The Flyers started the scoring with an 85-yard kickoff return by Greg Grove in the first quarter. Josh Tantari added to that lead with a seven-yard touchdown run in the third.

But Elmwood (3-6, 2-4) had some special teams magic of their own as T.J. Waldock returned a kickoff 92 yards for a score.

Lake (6-3, 4-2) piled up 221 rushing yards with Tantari getting 85.

ELMORE — Woodmore's Pierce Fonseca ran for 93 yards and a touchdown to lead the Wildcats (3-6, 2-3 SLL) in a shutout of the Golden Bears.

Quarterback Jake Zollinger completed 5 of 12 pass attempts for 20 yards and connected with Justin Garver for a 17-yard touchdown. Aaron Albright added a 35-yard touchdown run.

Avery Potridge had 126 yards on 24 carries for the Golden Bears (3-6, 1-4 SLL).
