FINDLAY - Lake advanced to the Division II girls regional soccer championship with a 2-1 victory last night over Ontario.

Rebecca Boos and Shelby Antonacci scored for Lake in the second half after the teams battled through a scoreless first half.

"We wanted to get some more speed on the back side," Lake coach Steve Hoffman said, "and it worked out so that were able to control the game pretty much on offense in the second half."

Boos was moved to forward in the effort to give the Flyers a speed advantage, the coach said. She scored the game's first goal with about 31 minutes left and Antonacci scored with about 23 minutes left.

Erica Ufeton scored for

Ontario with about six minutes left.

Lake held on for the rest of the match, but had to survive a scare with just two minutes left when Ontario scored a goal which would have tied the match, but it was waved off by an offsides penalty.

Hannah Cox, Tara Treple, and Emily Whitmore provided the defensive strength for Lake with goalie Ashley Timmons turning back 11 shots. Lake had 12 shots on goal.

Also playing a key role on the Lake offense was Drew Plummer.

Lake (19-1-1) avenged its only loss when it defeated Wauseon in the district. The Flyers will play St. Marys Memorial at Findlay on Saturday for the regional title.
