Sports letters: Whitmer deserved better

11/8/2009

Congratulations to the Whitmer Panthers for winning the City League championship for the first time!

What? You didn't know? You didn't hear about this? Could it be because Whitmer was given a small article with no pictures buried on Page 4 of The Blade's sports section?

Come on, even if one of your favorites (and we all know your three favorites) didn't win, let's give credit where credit is due. We are Panthers ... whether you like it or not, we're not going away.

Editor's note: What? You didn't see The Blade's coverage of the Whitmer Panthers throughout the season? All the teams on the Oct. 31 Blade sports section cover were vying for playoff berths. By the way, the City League champion Panthers were featured in the Blade sports section - either Sidelines or our sports cover - seven times this season. Eight if you count today's sports section. Good luck to your Panthers in the playoffs. You can count on the Blade for the area's most comprehensive coverage.

I was appalled when watching Friday's high school football scores. Some were 60-0, 64-7 and 57-0. What happened to good sportsmanship?

Shame on you coaches for running up the scores this high. And no, I didn't have a grandson playing on any of the losing teams.
