Zuch, Stewart, Cavanaugh double winners at district

BOWLING GREEN - Sami Zuch of Napoleon, MacKenzie Stewart of Port Clinton and Michael Cavanaugh of Otsego all were double winners Friday in the Division II district swim meet held at Bowling Green State University's Cooper Pool.

Zuch, a senior, won the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 1:48.85 and also claimed the 500 free at 4:51.14. She is the defending D-II state champ in both events.

Stewart, a sophomore, won the 200 individual medley (2:06.93) and also took first in the 100 breaststroke (1:03.95).

Two other Napoleon swimmers also won. Sophomore Erika Vocke took first in the 100 free (53.52), while freshman Makenzie Garringer claimed top honors in the 100 fly (57.02).

On the boys side, Cavanaugh was the winner in the 200 free (1:43.99), and the senior also took first in the 100 free (47.10).

Sandusky Perkins swept the team titles in the meet, besting second-place Napoleon 354.5-291.5 in the girls' race and 315.5-286 on the boys' side.

The top three girls and the top four boys in each event advance to next week's state meet, which will be held at Canton's Branin Natatorium.

BOWLING GREEN - Dylan Szegedi of St. Francis and Erika Walsh of St. Ursula won the Division I district diving meet Thursday at BGSU's Cooper Pool.

Szegedi, a junior, posted an 11-dive total of 432.90 to lead the field of 19 divers. Bill Magill, a St. John's sophomore, placed second with a 343.25 total, while Timothy Loret, a Southview sophomore, finished third at 341.30.

Walsh, a senior, finished with a 387.20, while Southview senior Danielle Laimbeer finished second at 355.00.

The top three boys and the top two girls automatically advance to the state meet.
