Rogers rallies to top Whitmer

Rogers staged a wild rally in the fourth quarter last night to knock off Whitmer 81-78 in a Division I boys basketball sectional final at Central Catholic.

The Panthers led 59-43 after three quarters before the Rams outscored them 38-19 in the final quarter.

Damond Powell scorched the nets for 16 of his 24 points in the fourth for the Rams (14-6). Powell got help late from Markeith Douglas, who didn't play in the first half but finished with 13 points, including nine in the last quarter.

Quincy Caldwell, DeVonte Pratt and Clemmye Owens each scored 12 for Rogers, whose press created havoc and turnovers in the final period after Whitmer point guard Dareon Jones fouled out.

Nigel Hayes paced the Panthers (15-6) with 22 points, while Mike Szymanski added 15 and Jones and Kenny Hayes each had 13.

Drew Lehman scored 21 points for the Irish in an easy win over Waite in a sectional final at

Libbey.

Tony Mays had 13 points for Central Catholic (19-2).

Henry Newson scored 10 for Waite (12-10).
