COLUMBUS - Waite senior Natasha Howard and coach Manny May captured top honors yesterday on the Associated Press Division I All-Ohio girls basketball team.
Howard, a 6-foot-3 forward who averaged 24.7 points, 11 rebounds and 2.6 assists a game, was named Division I player of the year. She has signed to play at Florida State.
May shared coach-of-the-year honors with Kettering Fairmont's Tim Cogan, and Marion Harding's Greg Noftz.
May is 140-112 in 12 seasons at Waite and has won four City League titles in six years.
The Indians (23-2) captured the first regional title in school
history and will play at 6 p.m. Friday against Kettering Fairmont (22-2) in the state semifinals in Columbus.
Area players named to the third team were Maleeka Kynard of Start, a 5-7 junior who averaged 13.2 points, and Olivia Fouty of Northview, a 5-11 senior who averaged 17.9 points.
In Division II, Libbey's Macketta Allen, a 5-8 junior who averaged 20.2 points, was selected to the third team.
Mylan Woods, a 5-11 senior at Shaker Heights Hathaway Brown, was named D-II player of the year, an honor she shared last year. The Northwestern signee averaged 15.4 points, 6.4 rebounds, 4.5
assists and 2.7 steals a game.
