Howard co-MVP in McDonald's game
4/1/2010COLUMBUS - Adding to an already banner senior season, Waite's Natasha Howard was voted co-most valuable player in last night's McDonald's Girls All-American game at Value City Arena.
The 6-foot-3 forward, who was named Ohio's Ms. Basketball, led the East squad with 20 points on 7-of-12 shooting from the field, including three 3-pointers during a 12-point second half. She also grabbed eight rebounds in a losing cause.
Howard, who has signed to play at Florida State, shared MVP honors with Tennessee-bound guard Meighan Simmons, who scored a 21 points in helping the West to an 84-75 victory.
Howard led Waite to the Division I state championship game on this same court 11 days earlier, with the Indians falling 49-47 to Canton McKinley. She also is set to play Saturday in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association All-American game in San Antonio in conjunction with the NCAA Women's Final Four at the Alamodome.
COLUMBUS- Brandon Knight's 3-pointer from the right wing with three seconds left gave the West a 107-104 victory over the East in the McDonald's All-American boys game.
Barnes, who is going to North Carolina, led the West with 18 points.
The East team included Jared Sullinger of Columbus, who will play at Ohio State. He was hospitalized Tuesday night with a mild case of food poisoning that left him dehydrated.
