BOWLING GREEN — As two of the Northern Lakes League's best baseball teams filed out of Carter Park Monday night, winds were gusting viciously from the north.

Had such conditions been in place over the previous two hours, it's unlikely Southview would have enjoyed the offensive explosion that it did. It's far more unlikely that such a factor would have made a difference in the outcome.

Four of Southview's 13 hits traveled beyond the outfield fence, propelling the seventh-ranked Cougars to a 12-1 rout and a season sweep of Bowling Green.

David Vandercook clubbed two home runs, as did Kirk Stambaugh, who allowed just three hits over seven innings to post the win.

“The kids did a nice job swinging the bats,” Southview coach Ed Mouch said. “It looked like they saw the ball well.”

Bowling Green's defense cooperated too. The Bobcats (10-8, 6-3) committed all three of their errors over the first two innings and fell behind 6-1. Starting pitcher Max Beattie lasted just 11/3 innings, allowing five hits and six runs, though just two of them were earned.
